Extremely overweight and running out of options.....What are my options?
I am 31 yrs and have received two cesarean sections. I am only 4'10 and i currently weigh 356lbs. I am not a candidate for bariatric surgery due to my insurance. I have tried to diet with no success and am running out of options. I know liposuction is expensive and I am not even sure it would help me. But I would like to know if there is any procedure that could benefit me even just a little bit. My lower belly is very hard and I believe it to be scar tissue from my previous c section births. This scar tissue in my belly hangs very low down over my thighs, making it harder and harder to walk. Is there a procedure out there that can remove this lower half of belly scar tissue, taking a large amount of weight off of my legs? Other procedures that could help me greatly?
At your current weight and height your BMI is 74, and it is too high, this is a real health issue. You really need to consider a bariatric surgery as your first option. A panniculectomy may be an option if your case, you will need a consultation with a Plastic Surgeon who can check if you will really benefit from the procedure.
Unfortunately your weight puts you at high risk. None of our surgical options will help you to lose weight at all. We may remove the weight, but without controlling your diet you will instantly regain it and still weight 356 pounds. In addition, any of the procedures would be out of pocket expenses to you which may be better served to save for bariatric surgery or nutritional counseling. Another option is to check back with your insurance company. Are you not a candidate? Or do you not have the coverage? If you are not a candidate, find out why and try to obtain the proper documentation. If you do not have the coverage, then speak with your employer and see what can be done to change you policy to include bariatric surgery.
You should check why your insurance company is not covering bariatric surgery. If they won't cover it, you should consider bariatric surgery by paying for the surgery yourself out of pocket, the same way you would have to pay for a cosmetic surgery procedure. Plastic surgery, tummy tuck, and liposuction are all bad options at your current weight.
Thanks for your question. I'm sorry for your frustration. At your current weight, liposuction is not an option. We have had great success with Ideal Protein diet but that is a very long process to get you to an ideal weight. Your best bet for your overall health is bariatric surgery as you mentioned above. It is not commonly covered by your insurance company. It is worth looking into. Best of Luck!
