Once you’ve decided you are ready for plastic surgery, you may be wondering, “what is the best procedure for me?” While this question may seem like a logical one, we recommend you first ask yourself the following instead:
- What do I not like about my current appearance?
- What do I wish I could change about my appearance and why?
- What do I want my (fill in the blank) to look like?
- Do I prefer a nonsurgical solution (typically lower risk but temporary results) or a surgical solution (typically higher risk but long-lasting results)?
When you meet with a board-certified aesthetic plastic surgeon during your initial consultation, the above information can be more helpful than indicating the exact procedure you want to get. When a surgeon understands what you don’t like or what you want to change about your appearance, he or she can recommend a procedure (or combination of procedures) that will best meet your needs.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t educate yourself on the various options (learn more in our procedures section). Do your research and come to your consultation ready to discuss the procedures you explored, but you should also have an open mind. Be prepared to have an in-depth conversation with your aesthetic plastic surgeon about your options before deciding what aesthetic procedure is best for you.
