What is the procedure to remove excess skin from belly button?
I’m 5’8 and 125lbs, I’ve had 2 children. My figure is slim, I’ve started to work out to tone for the summer, I eat healthy, etc. I’m happy with my body however I’m not happy with the way my stomach looks, i.e. belly button. I have seen a plastic surgeon before who said I was too thin for a tummy tuck (I saw some of the other posts). What are my options?
In my experience, any person who has significant redundancy of the skin around the belly button would significantly benefit from an abdominoplasty. So far, there are no treatment modalities that can produce satisfactory skin tightening.
A tummy tuck is not a procedure for overweight people but for people that have extra skin, which you seem to have.
There are tummy tucks and there are other kinds of tummy tucks but it sounds like you have excess skin around you belly button. A standard tummy tuck may not be indicated but you could certainly benefit from a mini-tuck with umbilical float (sliding your belly button down an inch or so and reattaching it to create more of an inny). Its been attempted to remove the skin around the belly button using a purse-string closure with awful outcomes so don't do that. If your skin laxity is not terrible, you could possibly benefit from skin tightening technology such as J-plasma BUT I would always recommend that whomever you see for this provide you some kind of patient protection if it doesn't do anything as there are plenty of technologies out there that have failed miserably in what they were supposed to do.
Thank you for your question. In our practice we believe that anyone that has had weight loss or has had children is a candidate for tummy tuck. There may not be excessive amounts of loose skin however muscle repair is needed after pregnancy and tummy tuck would also address the extra skin of your belly button. Please feel free to contact us for more information regarding your areas of concern.
