Mouth stands out (using Finger trap test)
I think my mouth looks very ugly from the side of my face and my front teeth cannot touch each other (upper teeth are outer, down side is normal). I tried the finger trap test, and it seems my mouth stands out.(genetic problem)
So if I want to fix this problem, do I have to ask dentist or can a plastic surgeon fix it?
Thanks for answering.
Thank you for your question. It sounds like you have a facial skeletal issue. These issue are best treatment by a team approach. The team typically consists of an oral surgeon and an orthodontist. Your local dentist could refer you to an orthodontist. Sometimes a plastic surgeon could be involved especially if he or she has oral and maxillofacial surgery training and/or craniofacial training. I hope this helps.
Best wishes.
Hello,
In your case it seems like the procedure would be performed in stages with different doctors. I suggest first consulting in person with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, they can point you in the right direction. Good luck in the future and thank you for your question.
A plastic surgeon with experience in Craniofacial orthognathic surgery should be able to help you. Ideally they work as a team with an orthodontist to align your teeth as well as your jaws.
