A third breast reduction can be performed as long as the prior to procedure details are known to the surgeon so that he or she may follow that technique. Deviation from the previous techniques could result in healing complications especially of the the nipple/areola. Additionally, It seems that a stable weigh would be crucial to the long-term success of your procedure.

Most insurance companies do not pay for breast lifts because true breast lifts remove far more skin than breast tissue. Breast reductions remove significant amounts of breast tissue and skin. Therefore, in a properly executed breast reduction a lift is a necessary part of the procedure.

I'm thinking of having a split muscle breast augmentation but I am worried that it can cause problems with detecting cancer on a mammogram as the implant is in front of the muscle as well as behind. Should I be concerned?

I am not to familiar with the "split" muscle technique but there have published studies in plastic surgery that show implants do not delay or impede the diagnosis of breast cancer. Secondly, x-ray techs are skilled at performing mammograms in women with implants to obtain the best images. Lastly, radiologists are skilled at reading mammograms with implants. Please discuss this issue in more detail with your operating plastic surgeon.

In my practice we use the Schnur scale and submit our calculation to the insurance company. The insurance company typically has the last say in the minimal amount of tissue that needs to be removed. If I decide to remove more tissue it is because it will make the breast proportional to the patient's frame. There are no financial incentives for removing more tissue. I am not sure why your plastic surgeon is stating that insurance will not cover the cost if 400 grams of breast tissue is not removed when the insurance company obviously requires less tissue to be removed for coverage of your procedure. Speak to that practice's insurance coordinator for a better explanation.
