About Bruce W. Van Natta, MD
Introduction
Dr. Van Natta takes immense pride in his undertaking of breast surgery. From breast augmentation to breast lift and reduction, he is on the front-lines of innovation – both in the operating room and with the advent of newer and better breast surgery technologies.
Education & Training
Highly respected by his patients and peers for his expertise in breast augmentation, Dr. Van Natta spent the early part of his career focused on immediate breast reconstruction. He was drawn to the field because it sits squarely at the crossroad of art and science. New innovations and techniques are vital, but to get truly exemplary results, a breast surgeon must also be a sculptor — able to think in 3-D. And like a great chef’s palate, it’s not something that can really be taught. It’s a gift. This gift allows to create better outcomes for his patients.
Dr. Van Natta's goal with every procedure is to deliver on your “wishes and wants”. But he is also a firm believer in respecting the limitations of your individual anatomy. Sometimes, a patient’s goal cannot actually be achieved. A Midwesterner to his core, it is very important to him to always have an open and honest dialogue with his patients about their expectations and if he feels that he cannot safely achieve your goal, he’ll tell you. An early adaptor to new technologies, he is passionate about staying on top of the latest innovations either through his membership in The Aesthetic Society or through his vast network of colleagues and friends. As someone who is primarily self taught in many of these cutting edge techniques, he feels an obligation to share his expertise with others.
In addition to his active private practice, he is also a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Plastic Surgery section of Indiana University Medical Center, and travels extensively giving presentations on a national level on breast surgery and soft tissue support. A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Van Natta is Medical Advisor for Allergan Breast Aesthetics, and was an active investigator in all of the clinical trials leading up to the re-release of silicone gel breast implants.
