Realistic healing time
I am 6 weeks post-op from an upper bleph and brow lift. One eye/brow has healed perfectly; the other eye has a higher lash to crease incision and the brow has not "dropped" so there is visible asymmetry. My surgeon tells me to be patient, that healing time can be 3 to 6 to 12 months. Some people have healed perfectly by now so I'm confused... and curious if I actually am seeing "final" results more or less at this point.
I understand your frustration and concerns.. It is difficult to exhibit patience as a patient that has underwent a big step. However, in the overwhelming majority of the situations, things do get better with time. At your current period of recovery, it would be best to focus on your doctors' post operative recommendations to optimize your result. You may too be one of the patient's that experiences a great result!
Your surgeon is correct; healing does take a long time. Imperfections that may seem as though they will never go away actually do mellow with time. 6 months on is usually when a revision can be considered.
One of the most common request for revisions is asymmetry of the eyes or the brows. Yet every patient is asymmetric, so it is important to have your prospective surgeon point out the asymmetries preoperatively, and predict which can be addressed and which can't. The same goes for cheek projection, brow position relative to the orbital bone, mandibular appearance. It is surprising how many people assume they are completely symmetrical when in face none of us are.
Unfortunately it is simply too soon to tell for sure. You can only know that you are done improving when you are done improving. The best way to track your healing is with consistent photographs. If they seem better in another month then hang in there. Every one does heal differently so I would not loose hope, I have had many patients that need to wait our minor asymmetries while they are healing that ultimately turn out great. Hope this helps!
