How to correct too much Fat Transfer?
I had fat transfer under my eyes and lower eye lid. I did it 8 months ago. It left me with irregular skin surface looking unnatural and swollen. How can it be corrected? The doctor said it cannot be corrected and I must put more fat. Can you help me please?
I would not recommend putting in more fat. I would see a few Plastic Surgeons who are experienced in lower eyelid fat transfer to see what they recommend. I prefer reversible fillers in that particular area as it is a technically challenging area to treat.
If the irregularity is due to weight gain, to reduce weight to the level of preoperative situation may improve the problem, otherwise if there is a specific lump of fat and the injection of very small amount of corticosteroid was not helpful, a small incision and direct excision would give the best solution.
I wouldn't do additional fat transfer. I would get a second opinion by other plastic surgeon who is specializing in oeriorbital surgery. Adding fat could be counterproductive and leave you with more problems. Most probably you need to get this fat removed and area reconsructed with surrounding tissues.
Correcting the excess of fat on the lower eyelid it is very difficult and not predictable, that is why not too many surgeons use fat grafting in that area, the skin is very thin and a small bump or unevenness is very easy to detect. I will recommend to get a second opinion from a surgeon who does the fat grafting in that area very often and has a lot of experience correcting that problem.
