Breast Reduction
I am 19 years old, 5'4 and my breast size is a 40DD. I weigh 180lbs which comes from me having pcos (polycystic ovary syndrome) which I was recently diagnosed with but I am slowly losing weight. I have always had a big chest as early as wearing training bras in 2nd grade. I have horrible neck and back pains along with the horrible under breast sweat regardless of if it's hot or not it also happens during the winter. I am a cosmetology student so I also have to stand a lot which is no help. I have a fairly flat stomach compared to my chest size so it looks odd. Would I be a candidate for breast reduction?
I think that you would be a good candidate for breast reduction. There are many techniques to decide exactly how much breast tissue should be removed and every plastic surgeon has his/her preferred technique. If you're interested in having insurance pay for this procedure, they typically have more fixed criteria that needs to be met. A common method that insurance companies use to determine the amount to remove is the Schnur scale. Based on your numbers, you would need about 525 grams (a little over a pound) per side removed. This is probably well within your needs. However since you are losing weight (and the breasts will get smaller as you lose weight), it may be preferable to wait until you're near your goal. In that way the breasts won't be further deflated by additional significant weight loss. That way your surgeon can create a pretty breast shape for you that will last. Always see a surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. All ASAPS members will be board certified by the ABPS and they have demonstrated experience and an interest in aesthetic surgery as well.
Sounds like you would be a great candidate for a breast reduction. The symptoms you are describing can definitely be attributable to your breasts that are disproportionately large for your frame. PCOD can definitely adversely affect things and sounds like you are in good hands. Weight loss is a great first step and might even start to relieve some of the stress. You should see a plastic surgeon listed in the Smart Beauty Guide to examine you and give you a more definitive recommendation. Best of Luck!
From your description you definitely appear to be a good candidate for a Breast Reduction. Prior to considering surgery you should reach your ideal weight. I recommend contacting your insurance carrier to see if this is a covered service. Then contact a Board certified plastic surgeon in your area. You may want to ask your physician for a recommendation.
Yes you would be a breast reduction candidate. Try to get your weight down if you can, but in the meantime seek a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon.
It sounds like you are a good candidate for breast reduction surgery and you may in turn receive some of the benefits of a reduction to your breast size which is less strain on your neck and back and increased exercise tolerance which could lead to additional weight loss. Whether or not your insurance company pays for this procedure is another thing. You would definitely need to be examined by a plastic surgeon and have that physical exam documented. Every insurance company has slightly different criteria. Many want to know Height and Weight to figure out your BMI, along with documentation of your symptoms.
Based on your description of your physical characteristics and symptoms, you would likely be an excellent candidate for breast reduction. Your insurance would likely cover such a procedure. Your next step is to schedule a visit with your primary care physician, discuss your symptoms, and request referral to an experienced board certified plastic surgeon. During the surgeon's consultation, your will learn more and they will have the opportunity to determine whether you would benefit. Best wishes.
