Would I be able to get a breast reduction?
Would I be able to get a breast reduction? I am 25 years old and I am 5'2. My bra size is a 42DD my upper back and my neck is constantly hurting, I can't stand up long to cook or wash dishes because I would just be in terrible pain, I even feel this way when I'm sitting down. I am starting to get a hunch back because my breasts are so heavy. The only way I can relieve the pain is when I am lying flat on my back on the bed. I would really like to get some work done because I just cannot stand the pain anymore.
From the information you have given, it sounds as if you would be a candidate for a breast reduction based on symptoms. An examination and consultation with a Plastic Surgeon would be needed to see if you are a good candidate for the surgery. The question next is would my insurance cover the procedure as medically necessary. For that, I would first verify with your company if there are benefits available for that particular procedure. Otherwise, no matter how good a candidate you may be for the surgery, it would not be covered. Next, even if a covered benefits, insurers generally have a set of criteria that must be met first. You can general find that information on you insurers website by searched the words "breast reduction" or "reduction mammoplasty".
You are the perfect patient for breast reduction. It would help if I knew your weight. Patient's seeking breast reduction generally complain of breast discomfort or pain (called mastodynia), chronic rashes under the breasts (called infrmammaary intertrigo), shoulder top furrowing and chronic neck and/or back pain. Patients further state that they can not work out because of the weight of their breasts, can not fine proper fitting clothes (especially sports wear and swimming suits) because of the size of their breasts and they are embarrassed by people always staring at their breasts. We do this operation as an out-patient with mild anesthesia. The patient needs 7 to 10 days to recover and is back to all activities in 3 to 6 weeks.

You sound like a excellent candidate for breast reduction / reduction mammaplasty. The procedure makes the breasts lighter and lifts them. It improves proportions. It reduces or eliminates shoulder, neck and upper back discomfort. Clothing fits better. Patients sleep better. Your next step is to schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area, and he or she can assist you with detailed questions, help with your insurance coverage, etc.
From the description and history you provided, it sounds like you might be an ideal candidate for a breast reduction. It would certainly be worth your time to have a consultation with an experienced plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
