Will a tummy tuck improve risk of heart problems?
Since excess belly fat is associated with heart and other health problems, will a tummy tuck reduce a persons risk of developing these ailments? Thank you!
Procedures such as tummy tucks or abdominoplasty are considered body contouring surgeries. There is no evidence that they reduce the risk of heart disease or diabetes, although some seem to think that there are some metabolism changes in Diabetes, the procedures should however, not be performed with that in mind. Risks are based on weight, diet, social habits such as smoking, etc. The surgeries themselves also have risks which one should discuss and weigh the benefits of with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
This is a great question. Studies have not found Tummy Tucks to reduce the risk of Heart Problems though it does seem to make sense. Risks for heart disease have been shown to be directly correlated with hereditary, other medical conditions, environmental/ social/ dietary influences, etc.
