Will wearing a corset/spanx help skin tightening during weight loss?
After liposuction people wear shape wear corsets to help skin tightening. Does it work while losing weight too?
Compression garments can be very helpful following tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) or liposuction surgery. There is no weight loss benefit to wearing a compression garment. Patients must be carefully measured for a custom-fit garment preoperatively, and garment fit must be carefully monitored postoperatively. If a one-size larger or smaller garment is needed, we discontinue the current garment and have a new one sent by overnight delivery to the patient’s home.
The compression garments (corsets) that liposuction patients wear are to help control the initial swelling and bruising after liposuction. They do not contribute to skin tightening. The skin tightening process is inherent in the quality and nature of the skin and differs from person to person and (body) area to area. In cases where there is a large amount of weight loss (e.g. gastric bypass), the ability of the skin to contract may be inadequate for the volume of fat that is lost. In those situations, the only option is to have the excess skin removed surgically.
I don't know whether such garments would help much during weight loss. As you mentioned, they are used after liposuction, but not primarily for cause skin tightening. Their main use is to reduce swelling within tissues during the early recovery, and passively support the skin until the swelling goes away. Best wishes for your success with weight loss.
Wearing a corset can't help you lose weight, but if it makes the exercise process more tolerable, it may be a great idea! Particularly for tummy tuck patients, they find that prior to their tummy tucks, they often need corsets or Spanx to retain their abdominal layer. After their tummy tucks, of course, this is no longer required.
Probably not and after you have the excess skin, then you will need a removal in order for you to "complete your journey!
Garments after surgery help speed the resolution of swelling. They are not proven to help skin tightening. The skin tightens based on a person's inherent skin tone and skin elasticity. If your skin is loose, stretched out, and lax, no garment will help skin tightening. The only way to tighten skin in these cases is surgery, such as a tummy tuck for example. Garments such as spanx may help your clothes look and fit better, but don't expect help with skin tightening if you wear one during your weight loss.
