Will abdominal mesh be removed during a tummy tuck?
Asked 2014-06-30
I have a diastasis recti from having twins and then another baby 11 months later. I had hernia surgery where a large mesh was placed. I am scared to have the tummy tuck and concerned about the previous hernia repair and mesh. Will that be removed? Will insurance pay for this type of procedure?

Procedure(s)
The mesh from the repair does not need to be removed in most cases. It is very difficult to take out and can cause more harm than good. The insurance company will most likely not pay for a tummy tuck but hernia related issues. Your plastic surgeon will evaluate the previous surgery involving the mesh and recommend the best course of action. The mesh is not a significant issue.
