Is there any risk in nose surgery?
Dr. Culbertson is exactly correct. Every surgery has risks, but in rhinoplasty most are under the surgeon's control. Thus they can be minimized by surgeon selection. Infection and bleeding are very uncommon--your most likely complication will be an unsatisfactory cosmetic result or a new or uncorrected airway obstruction. That is why you should look for a surgeon whom you trust and who specializes in nasal surgery. If you do, you are very likely to have a good result that you like.
Absolutely. Nose surgery is one of the most difficult surgeries to perform and achieve high patient satisfaction. The outcome is never perfect and this is the most common issue. A patient must be very realistic in the outcome.
A home run is seldom and third base is frequent. The other issues are breathing issues, infection, bleeding but most common is re-operation for correction of cosmetic issues. Good Luck.
Risk In Nose Surgery -The most important thing about enhancing the outcome of safety in nasal surgery or Rhinoplasty, is to find a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or Otolaryngologist with expertise in Rhinoplasty. This is one of the most challenging operations we do in plastic surgery. This procedure requires both Expertise and Experience.
This a very common question. The risks are often dependent upon the extent of the procedure ( i.e. Septoplasty, Cartilage Grafting, etc.) The most common risks are bleeding & infection. Other risks include patient dissatisfaction with the result sometimes requiring re-operation. Consider addressing your concerns with your surgeon BEFORE your surgery.
