Is surgery the only option for a breast reduction now?
Following pregnancy in my 40's, I had belly liposuction. I looked good for 3-4 yrs. but then menopause hit & I gained 20 lbs. Now I've gone from a C-cup to a DD-cup & have back fat as well. My waist is also getting wider. Will a strict diet & exercise correct this? Will I need a breast reduction & breast lift?
Thank you for submitting your question - it is a common topic that is asked in the office. Breast reduction surgery can provide many benefits in the right patient. The best results come when you are at a healthy and stable weight for 4-6 months prior to surgery and have a good exercise and nutrition plan in place. Losing weight may or may not change your breast size. When considering breast reduction surgery, consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area and have a detailed discussion about your goals and timing for surgery. Best wishes on achieving your desired look.
Fat is an important proportion of your breasts, so if you lose the 20 pounds that you have gained you will notice a reduction in the glands. Otherwise, you will need a reduction.
