Tummy Tuck
My tummy tuck is planned for March 26, how soon can I travel by airplane?
This is really a question for your surgeon who should give you detailed guidance on after care for your tummy tuck. Ideally you should wait at least a few weeks.
When my patients have major procedures, they are warned that they should never do this before any events/trips that they cannot miss. Traveling by plane and going to distant areas would require that you are 'out of the woods' in terms of your recovery and that usually translates to a few weeks before getting the green light. But this is something you should discuss with your surgeon. I hope you're not traveling out of your area for a procedure by someone a distance away as it is always best to stay local when a list of complications are possible.
Thank you for your question and doing your homework with ASAPS member surgeons. Travelling after any plastic surgery procedure is best planned with your surgeon. There are many factors that determine when it is safe to travel and those factors will differ from person to person. You want to leave yourself enough time to get through the initial phases of healing and ensure that there are no complications requiring attention. If you are contemplating purchasing tickets, it is best to pay a little extra and make sure they are refundable or can be changed without additional fees. Based on your health, risk factors, and complexity of procedures you are having done, your surgeon should be able to give you a reasonable estimate of when you should be able to travel. It is important to note that even your surgeon's best estimate may turn out to be incorrect if you have difficulties during the recovery process or need a little more time to heal than other patients. Good communication is the key and proper travel planning with enough time to heal goes a long way to optimizing your final result. Best wishes on a great result and speedy recovery.
