Breast Reduction
I’m 18 years old, 5'6 in height and I weigh 194 pounds. I’m currently in between double D’s and triple D’s in bra sizes due to one of my breast being noticeably larger than the other. I’ve suffered from back pains, neck pains, and headaches due to my breasts being so large. I can no longer wear bras with straps because they leave imprints on my shoulders, and cause serious neck pains. I have switched to strapless bras to ease up the pain that I have. I haven’t been to the doctor yet to discuss these issues with them due to the fact I don’t know if I would qualify for the surgery with insurance covering the cost.
Consider starting with your insurance carrier to see if Breast Reductions are a covered service. Often the carrier will have their criteria for pre-approval/ pre-determination on-line or avaliable to their clients. This should be of great assistance to determine if your health insurance will assist in the coverage of your Breast Reduction.
Thank you for your question and doing your homework with ASAPS member surgeons. Breast reduction surgery is a consistent, safe, and reproducible means to decrease your breast size and help alleviate symptoms of neck, back, and shoulder discomfort that are due to large breast size. Breast reduction has one of the highest patient satisfaction scores of any plastic surgery procedure and can help address natural asymmetries that occur. It is important to note that many women do not reach full breast maturity until their early twenties and you may experience further breast growth after a reduction at age 18. The best place to start is with a board-certified ASAPS member surgeon in your area. You can partner with your surgeon and develop a treatment plan that is best suited to your individual goals, age, budget, and timeline. Best wishes on a great result and speedy recovery!
