Will a breast reduction help me to become healthier?
So I'm 156cm, I weigh 65kg and I'm a 12F. I've been on a diet before and lost almost 6kg, but my breasts became larger and my back and neck are killing me. I find it hard to jog, let alone get up and I slouch too much. I'm only 17 but I was wondering if a breast reduction would be necessary in my situation and whether or not it would be worth it. I'm also worried about my BMI and whether or not this will affect the surgery?
Breast reduction surgery has a high satisfaction rate due to the immediate relief of back and neck pain. The physical improvement can allow you to take part in a healthy and active lifestyle. In young women your age, this can translate into the ability to play and enjoy sports that you weren't previously able to. The surgery is best performed after your breasts are fully developed, most young women in your age range wait until they haven't had an increase in breast size over the past year. Your BMI of 26.7 does not prohibit you from having surgery. You should consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can assist you in developing a surgical plan that meets your needs.
Thank you for submitting your question! Breast reduction surgery improves quality of life and can go a long way to alleviating symptoms of neck, back, and shoulder discomfort. It is important to see a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in breast surgery. Since you are 17, your breasts may not be finished developing yet and it is important to realize that if you get a reduction at this age, you may still experience some breast growth and enlargement. Your surgeon can partner with you and develop a plan that optimizes timing to achieve the best and most durable long-term result. Best wishes on a great outcome!
